Pioneer Auto Club will have the Kickoff Commemorative Run through Kokomo.

Commemorative Run Map
  1. Elwood Haynes (1857 - 1925) started his Pioneer Automobile at this location on July 4, 1894 in the first test drive of America's first commercially-successful gasoline powered automobile. This monument commemorating Mr. Haynes' first run was dedicated on July 4, 1922 with over 7,000 people in attendance to honor Mr. Haynes. 
  2. Elwood Haynes lived in this home from 1916 until his death in 1925. Construction began in 1915 by renowned architect R. L. Young and the Haynes family took residence in June of 1916. In 1965, Elwood's daughter, Bernice Haynes Hillis purchased the house and donated it to the City of Kokomo as a museum honoring her father. On May 28, 1967 the Elwood Haynes Museum was dedicated and has been in operation ever since. 
  3. The Haynes Automobile Company factory consisted of buildings in this area, operating from 1903 to 1924. 
  4. The Haynes Automobile Company offices operated in this building from 1903 to 1924. 
  5. The Kokomo Rubber & Tire factory and office, founded by David Spraker (1847 - 1933) made pneumatic tires for bicycles and automobiles. 
  6. The Apperson Brothers Automobile Company factory operated here from 1903 to 1925. The building is built on the site of the Riverside Machine Works where Elmer & Edgar Apperson built the Pioneer to Elwood Haynes' specifications at 40 cents an hour.

Haynes Apperson Annual Car Show

June 30th from 1PM to 7PM. The Pioneer Automobile Club, Shifters, Central Indiana Classic Chevy Club and City First VW Club are hosting a car show in Foster Park Entry Fee $15.00.
